O foco deste Projeto é estimular a troca, voluntária, de correspondência entre os colaboradores da AstraZeneca do Brasil e moradores de abrigos para a 3ª Idade.

Através do “ Carta Amiga” , os colaboradores têm a oportunidade de realizar uma ação voluntária, dirigida a algumas dessas milhares de pessoas , pois uma simples carta , que chega até elas , pode muito bem trazê-las de volta a um tempo que parecia perdido.
De fato, os idosos também têm coisas para contar : casos acontecidos , sonhos realizados ou não , acertos e desacertos... ; coisas com as quais constituíram suas próprias histórias de vida e sua parcela de atuação na sociedade, a qual, aliás, se prolonga, na sabedoria e na experiência que eles transmitem em sua “ Carta Amiga “ O lançamento aconteceu em setembro 2002.
Durante uma semana , realizamos exposição com fotos, áudios de entrevistas e vídeo , retratando a solidão nos abrigos para a 3ª idade.
Durante a exposição, cerca de 400 colaboradores visitaram nosso stand e mais de 160 se inscreveram, para participar do Projeto. 
Cada voluntário inscrito recebeu um livro com depoimentos, fotos e endereços dos idosos participantes, para a troca de correspondência com estes.

The objective of this Project is to stimulate the exchange, voluntarily, of correspondence between employees of AstraZeneca and residents of homes for the elderly (3rd age).

Brazil has presently presently more than 15 million oldsters, or about 10% of the Brazilian population. But, only 4.40% of social institutions, legally existing, provide any type of assistance to this population.
Through the “Friendly Letter ”, our employees have the opportunity of doing a voluntary action, addressed to some of these thousands of persons, since a simple letter, which reaches their hands, can very well bring them back to a time that seemed irrevocably lost.
In fact, the elderly have also much to tell: bygone cases, dreams realized or not, accomplishments and failures.....; events with which they built up the history of their own lives and their share of participation in society which, actually, lingers on in the wisdom and experience that they relate in their “Friendly Letter”.
The launching of the Project happened in September 2002. We organized an exhibition, which lasted one week, with photographs, audio and video of interviews, depicting the loneliness of the homes for the elderly.
During the exhibition about 400 employees visited our stand and over 160 signed on to participate in the Project. Each registered volunteer received a book of testimonies, photographs and addresses of the participating elderly, for the exchange of correspondence with them.
The Project presently has the participation of 16 oldsters and 32 volunteers, and we are already endeavouring the expand these numbers.

O Brasil possui, hoje, mais de 15 milhões de idosos, ou seja : 10% da população brasileira. Mas, apenas 4,40% das instituições sociais, legalmente constituídas, prestam algum tipo de assistência à esta população.
